Nearly 1,000 tenancies in Clare relying on the Housing Assistance Payment are receiving the higher discretionary rate.
Figures released through the Oireachtas show 951 households in Clare are receiving the higher band since it was increased from 20 percent to 35 percent back in July.

HAP limits in Clare are 550 euro a month at their highest, for a couple or a single adult with three children, while one adult in shared accommodation can receive 220 euro monthly.
It means around 1 in 5 HAP tenants in Clare are receiving a higher discretionary amount towards their private rented accommodation.
