Near 80% Reduction In Clare Home Heating Oil Use

Almost 76% of homes with a Building Energy Rating in Clare that previously relied on oil have switched to an alternative fuel source in the last year.

New CSO figures show that over 1,000 households in this county no longer rely on oil for their central heating.

In 2023, 1,518 homes in Clare relied on oil as their main source of heating.

Since then there has been a major drop in numbers leaving just 365 homes in 2024 still relying on oil.

The highest percentage of homes that rely on oil in 2024 are those with a ‘B’ energy rating making up 35% of those homes.

Similarly to this CSO statistics show that homes using solid fuels have also been on the decline with a drop of almost 69& between 2023 and 2024.

In total 28,240 properties in Clare now possess a Building Energy Rating.

7% of those now have the highest possible ‘A’ rating , while the majority of 34% scored between a ‘C1’ and ‘C3’ grade.

8% of homes in Clare still have the lowest possible ‘G’ energy efficiency rating.

This means Clare has the eight lowest number of ‘A’ rated properties nationwide and the seventh greatest total of ‘G’ rated homes in the country.
