Multi-Agency Checkpoint Held In Ballina/Killaloe

A multi-agency checkpoint has been held in Ballina/Killaloe this week.

The aim of the operation, which was conducted by Gardaí, Waterways Ireland and Water Safety Ireland was to advise people about the importance of water safety.

People were advised of the requirements under the Waterways Ireland Regulations in regard to vessels, jet skis and general water safety advice, while a number of road traffic offences were detected, with one person arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

Gardaí are reminding people that if you see someone in trouble, in or near the water, you should dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.
