Mulcahy Defends Government In Face Of LEADER Cut

A Clare government Senator has defended the coalition's efforts to bring the economic recovery to rural areas.

Shannon Fine Gael representative Tony Mulcahy has been responding to criticism from the head of the Clare Local Development Company, in light of a five million euro cut to the county's share of LEADER funding.

Doreen Graham says the scheme, which supports rural projects, is invaluable and has argued that more money could have created jobs in rural communities.

Senator Mulcahy agrees that more money would have been ideal, and has praised the track record of the CLDC.

However, he's confident that the economic recovery isn't just centred on cities.
