Motorists Warned Of Difficult Driving Conditions In Clare Following Subzero Temps Overnight

Gardaí are urging motorists in Clare to drive with extra care today, as the cold-snap continues.

Temperatures dipped to minus five degrees in parts of the county overnight and a national weather advisory remains in place until midday.

Motorists are being warned to prepare for difficult travelling conditions on roads in West and North Clare in particular, with Gardaí highlighting the Doonbeg to Kilrush and the Lisdoonvarna to Ennistymon Roads.

Roads around the Hand, Kilmaley and Sixmilebridge are also being highlighted, as well as back roads, entrances to housing estates and footpaths across the county.

Drivers approaching the Limerick tunnel from the northbound lane are also being advised to approach the area with caution following reports of a six car pile up before the Caherdavin exit.

Matthew Martin from Met Éireann says any untreated roads will be very slippery this morning.

There are also warnings that low-temperatures may cause issues for vulnerable people and for animal welfare.
