Motorists are being urged to exercise caution as Met Éireann has issued a national weather advisory.
Taking effect from today until 6pm Wednesday, the national weather service warns of temperatures dropping to single digits during the day with severe frosts and icy patches at night.
Showers of sleet or snow are expected particularly in eastern counties from this evening onwards.
