Motoring Offences In Clare Drop By 7% In Three Years

Fixed charge penalty notices for motoring offences in Clare have dropped by seven per cent in the last three years.

Motorists in this county paid fines totalling over €450,000 to An Garda Síochána in 2020.

5,575 separate fines were handed out across the Banner by the Gardaí for motoring offences in 2020.

Speeding is by far the most common reason in Clare for fixed charge penalty notices being issued – they accounted for 70% of fines given to motorists in this county last year, with penalties issued on nearly 4,000 occasions.

Drivers were caught driving while using a mobile phone on more than 550 occasions last year, with failing to display a valid tax or insurance disc and not wearing a seat belt the next most common offences in Clare.

All of these offences have decreased in this county since 2017, when similar data was last recorded – failure to display tax or insurance fell by more than half in that time.

€454, 675 in fines were issued by An Garda Síochána in Clare last year – a drop of more than €110,000 from three years ago.
