More Than 200 Patients Waiting For Beds At Limerick And Galway Hospitals Today

Nurses say more than 200 patients were left waiting for beds at the University Hospitals in Limerick and Galway today.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show the two Emergency Departments in counties neighbouring Clare were the most overcrowded in the country this morning.

At University Hospital Limerick, nurses recorded 110 patients on trolleys during morning rounds, 48 of those in the ED while there were 100 at University Hospital Galway, 55 of those in the ED.

The combined number is well in excess of all nine hospitals in the East of the country today and comes on a day when 770 patients in total were waiting for beds at hospitals across the country.
