There's mixed views on the decision to grant planning permission to ALDI at the site of Ennistymon Mart.
Local Councillor Bill Slattery says the vast majority of people in the local area are welcoming the news, saying it will provide a welcome boost in business in the town.
Clare County Council gave the go-ahead to ALDI in July last year to construct a single-storey development at the site of Ennistymon Mart, but this was met with upset by local farmers who didn't want to see the loss of the existing facility.
Following this, the Save Ennistymon Mart Committee lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanála.
But the planning authority has now given the project the green light, subject to 17 conditions, including one which states that a proported children's burial ground on the site is preserved, if evidence of this is discovered.
Local Councillor Bill Slattery believes news of ALDI coming to Ennistymon is welcomed by the majority, who believe it will prevent people from travelling to Ennis for their weekly grocery shop.

Farmers say that that news of the closure of Ennistymon Mart has led to widespread devastation across the agricultural sector in North Clare.
Chairman of the Save Ennistymon Mart Committee, Tom Clare says members were never against bringing ALDI to the town but he insists that farmers will suffer a huge loss over the chosen location.
And, Secretary Pat McDonagh fears the Supermarket Giant may pose a threat to local producers.
