After a workshop for Ennis Municipal District councillors, it was decided that the new parking charges would be introduced for the county town.

Up to now, there was a flat cost of 1.30 per hour across the board.

The town’s car parks have seen a reduction in cost while on street parking in areas including O’Connell Street, High Street and Bank Place is now more expensive.

The new rates came into play on June 16th for a six month trial – and President of Ennis Chamber of Commerce Will Cahir believes the plan will benefit the town.

The parking debacle has been a long-running issue with the council with supply being one of the key complaints.

The long-term plan is to bring 500 additional spaces on stream by 2022 but for now, addressing the complaints over cost is the priority.
