Ministers Signing Off On No-Deal Brexit Ahead Of Key Vote

Cabinet Ministers are signing off on plans for a no deal Brexit ahead of a crucial vote in the House of Commons tonight.

The withdrawal agreement is likely to be heavily defeated by MPs and a vote of no confidence in the British government may follow.

Theresa May is facing what could be one of the heaviest defeats in parliamentary history this evening.

MPs are roundly against the withdrawal agreement – Labour’s Hillary Benn will vote against it.

The DUP will also vote the deal down – their leader is Arlene Foster.

The last hours of debating the deal are resuming now in Westminster – Mrs. May herself will make a final pitch to MPs from around 6:30, before voting gets underway at 7:00.

But with defeat all but inevitable, the spectre of the nightmare hard Brexit looms large.

Here at home the cabinet is considering an omnibus bill to bring all the legislation needed to prepare to the Dáil in one go.

Opposition parties have said more needs to be done to make Ireland Brexit ready.

Ministers are are also discussing how to avoid a shortage of medicines if the UK crashes out and how to limit the impact on transport.

There’s just ten weeks until their scheduled exit date of March 29th, but Past President of the Irish Road Haulage Association, Bunratty-based Eoin Gavin, says it’s already having a negative impact.
