Plans to build 21 houses in Quin are unlikely to go ahead after the Housing Minister over-ruled Clare County Councillors to protect bats in the area.
The Council had voted to zone the lands at Quin for residential purposes, by 26 votes to 1, but Minister Jan O’Sullivan has intervened saying the plan doesn’t comply with regulations due to the way in which a report on the Lesser Horseshoe Bats in the area was considered.
Minister O’Sullivan has now taken the decision out of the hands of Clare County Council, directing that the land be zoned for open space and agricultural use, despite the fact that a local developer had planned to build housing for the elderly there.
