Hundreds of acres of farmland in areas including Kildysart, Ballynacally, Doonbeg and Loop Head were submerged after flood defences were overwhelmed by water.

There are concerns that a lack of action will leave them vulnerable again this winter, and a former Clare IFA Chairman has previously accused the government of abandoning them.

But speaking to Clare FM in Liscannor yesterday, Minister Simon Coveney insisted this won't be the case.
