Minister For Foreign Affairs Pours Cold Water On PSO Route Between Shannon And Amsterdam

The Minister for Foreign Affairs has appeared to pour cold water on the possibility of providing a route from Shannon to Amsterdam as a Public Service Obligation.

In late September, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Hildegarde Naughton, confirmed to the Oireachtas that subsidising European hub connectivity from Shannon was under consideration.

However, during a recent visit to Ennis, Minister Simon Coveney pointed towards the difficulty of making this a reality due to the country’s competition rules.

 

Minister Coveney, believes other avenues should be examined in relation to boosting passenger numbers at Shannon Airport.
