The Minister For Education has officially cut the ribbon on a new state of the art OLED Manufacturing facility in Shannon.
Universal Display Corporation & PPG have launched their initial €10milliion investment at the site which is expected to increase the firm’s employee headcount in the MidWest to 100 in the coming years.
The Minister Of Education has described the establishment of a cutting edge manufacturing facility in Shannon as a major vote of confidence in the talent pool of graduates produced in the region.
It comes as The Universal Display Corporation & PPG have today officially opened a state of the art Organic Light Emitting Diode production plant at the Shannon Free Zone.
The development marks the first step in UDC’s muti-phase expansion plan for the site which is underpinned by an initial €10 million investment.
Subsequent multi-million euro expansions are expected to come on stream in the coming years in the site as UDC & PPG plan to double their employee headcount at their Shannon base of operations from 50 to 100 in the coming years.
The high tech positions to be created in Clare include roles in engineering and operational disciplines, supply chain roles synthetic chemists & analytical technicians.
Education Minister Norma Foley says the expansion is a strong endorsement of the region’s third level institutions.
Meanwhile the Plant Manager of Shannon PPG believes the UDC’s investment will place the MidWest Facility at the forefront of the global OLED Market.
UDC & PPG currently employ 50,000 people across 70 Countries, however the new site in Shannon will be one of three facilites of its kind in the world and will enable the firm to double its output of OLED products.
Plant Manager Gerry Cahill says the potential is limitless for the Shannon site.
