The Jobs Minister considered travelling to the headquarters of Roche in Switzerland after her efforts to secure jobs at their Clarecastle plant were criticised.
The Irish Independent reports that Mary Mitchell O’Connor asked advisors about such a trip after in July, when she was urged to travel there by local Fine Gael TD Joe Carey.
Speaking on Clare FM, he criticised his own government’s efforts to secure employment at the plant, which has begun to wind down operations and is set to shut in 2019.
At the time, the Minister said she was satisfied that the IDA was pursuing all avenues to secure a new buyer.
A spokeswoman for the Minister has confirmed to the Independent that she didn’t travel to Basel because it was clear that Roche’s decision was final.
