News that rural Clare households wont be facing excessive charges for septic tank inspections have been welcomed but there’s concern over repeated fees
Under rules laid down by Brussels, septic tanks will have to be checked for compliance in what’s been described as a ‘tax on rural householders’.
It had been feared that exorbitant charge will be levied on these inspections, but Environment Minister Phil Hogan has confirmed this won’t be the case – however, he says homeowners will have to pay a ‘small registration charge fee- of 100 euro
MEP for North and West Marian Harkin who has been campaigning on the issue here in Clare is cautiously welcoming the Minister’s comments.
