Europe's Highest court has said that the current data sharing agreement – that governs information on sites like Facebook and Twitter – is invalid.

The Irish Data Protection Commissioner will now examine how that ruling affects personal information being shared online between Europe and the US.

Today's EU judgement will also be considered by the High Court here in the coming weeks.

The Irish Independent's Technology Editor, Adrian Weckler, says the ruling doesn't mean that data sharing stops now.
