MidWest Residents Have Shortest Life Expectancy

People living in the MidWest have the shortest life expectancy of anywhere in Ireland.

The CSO estimates that boys born in 2016 can expect to live for 79 years, and that girls have a life expectancy of 82.5 years.

The trend is also borne out in older people here, with men and women who are aged 65 both expected to have shorter lives than in other parts of the country.

For both age groups, women have a longer life expectancy than men, and the figures show that life expectancy has grown over recent years.
