The comments from Dr. Gerry Burke, who is based at the region’s Maternity Hospital in Limerick, came in light of last week’s HIQA report into the death of Savita Halappanavar.

It found a series of failures in the provision of basic medical care, and made a series of recommendations for maternity services both at University Hospital Galway where she died, and nationwide.

The Health Minister announced a national review of maternity services in light of the report – Dr. Gerry Burke told this program that he hopes it will see staffing levels addressed.
