The Midwest Hospital Campaign Group claims the August Bank Holiday made little or no difference to what it describes as “consistent” overcrowding at the region’s main hospital.
Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisations show 88 people were on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick on Tuesday in the wake of the bank holiday with this figure rising to 100 on Wednesday.
It comes just one week after record overcrowding for the month of August was experienced at the Dooradoyle facility with 100 people without a bed at the hospital during morning rounds.
Midwest Hospital Campaign Group member Noeleen Moran says while bank holidays put pressure on the health service, overcrowding at UHL is a year-round problem.
