Families across the Midwest are said to be benefitting hugely from changes to the delivery of general paediatric care introduced last year.
A new HSE model of care was launched in September 2024 to ensure children were receiving hospital treatment as close to home as possible.
Over 130 children across the region have had their surgeries in UHL under the programme, saving their families two trips to Dublin out of every three hospital visits.
Speaking on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in Paediatric Surgery, Prof Tara Connelly, says families are reaping the benefits right across the board.
