A Midwest addiction counsellor has called for the establishment of an independent drugs ministry, following the publication of a new report which confirms ‘worst fears’.
Figures from the Health Research Board shows an increase in those receiving cocaine treatment in Ireland from 1.5 to 93.2 per 100,000 people between 2020 and 2023.
The latest available figures show Clare recorded a 47% increase presentations for cocaine addiction services amongst those in full time employment.
Addiction counsellor at Cuan Mhuire in Bruree, Michael Guerin says the increased accessability of cocaine to all demographics is exacerbating the problem.
