A blanket of snow could be on the cards for Clare tonight, as the cold snap grips the entire country.

Met Éireann has updraded its weather warning for this county, as well as Limerick and Tipperary to a status orange alert for snow and ice, which kicks in at midnight and remains in place until noon tomorrow.

The forecaster is warning of significant snowfall, poor visibility, very difficult travelling conditions, with travel disruption to air, rail and bus services likely, difficult conditions under foot and animal welfare issues.

Clare County Council’s Local Authority Severe Weather Assessment Team is continuing to monitor conditions locally and emergency response teams are in place, ready to respond where and when necessary.

Met Éireann forcaster Liz Coleman says temperatures will plummet tonight.
