Met Eireann says daytime temperatures will reach as high as 30 degrees and perhaps even beyond that in this region, while at night it could be as high as 20 degrees.

A status yellow high temperature warning is now in effect until Friday in Clare, which is in effect officially declaring this spell of good weather a heatwave.

Six other counties in the Midlands are also under an orange warning until then.

For a heatwave to be called the temperature must be five degrees above average for five days in a row.

Head of Forecasting at Met Eireann, Evelyn Cusack, has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that summers like this are to become a recurring theme in the coming years.

As the good weather has taken hold, people have flocked to coastal resorts in the North and West of the county.

However, Clare motorists are being asked to be mindful of the emergency services in the coming days.

Clare’s Chief Fire Officer says people’s eagerness to park up at the coast means emergency vehicles can be blocked from accessing certain areas.

Adrian Kelly wants the public to bear this in mind over the next few days, and says cars shouldn’t just be abandoned when people take a trip to the beach.

Clare’s County Dog Warden is also urging pooch owners here not to walk their pets in the middle of the day during the hot weather.

Frankie Coote says plenty of water should be available at all times for dogs.
