MEPS on Clare visit

Clare’s representatives in Brussels will today be asked for their views on how the EU can better assist people in the Banner county.

Three MEPs in the North and West Region will all visit Aras Chontae an Chláir this afternoon for a formal meeting with members of Clare County Council.

Independent MEP Marian Harkin, Fine Gael’s Jim Higgins and Fianna Fail’s Pat The Cope Gallagher are all due in Ennis this afternoon to hold face to face talks with members of Clare County Council.

MEPs are to be questioned on a number of issues pertaining to life here, including the proposed changes to local government and it’s impact on Leader funding, and also their views on Dublin City Council plans to extract water from Lough Derg.

The European Parliament members will be asked for their views on aviation policy and the independence of Shannon Airport, and on the impact of European funding on the Program for Government, most notably with regards to job creation in the Mid West and specifically in Clare.

The ongoing CAP reform talks will also be a hot topic, with Councillors set to call for farmers in the West of Ireland to be treated fairly in their own meeting which takes place before today’s session.
