Europe has followed Clare's lead, in calling for a moratorium on fracking.

In a tight vote, MEPs in the European Parliament have urged member states not to authorise any fracking activities until it's proven to be safe for the environment and citizens.
In 2012, Councillors here voted to impose an outright ban on any fracking activity in Clare.
However, local representatives later received legal advice that their plan to implement a specific ban on the practice in the county development plan was not legally possible.
