An Ireland South MEP is staging an 'Irish language strike' in the European Parliament.

For the duration of Seachtain na Gaeilge, Sinn Féin's Liadh Ní Riada is only speaking Irish when engaging with any of the EU institutions including the European Parliament.
She says Irish has been afforded only a second-class status by the EU, even though it was granted official language status in 2007.
A renewable derogation was granted, which means EU institutions are exempted from providing full translation and interpretation services, and Ms Ní Riada wants the government here to apply for this situation to end.
