MEP Calls For Extension Of Paternity Benefit Amid Low Uptake In Clare

An MEP for this constituency wants the length of time fathers can take off from work after the birth of a child to be extended.

It’s after figures from the Department of Social Protection revealed just 14 new fathers took paternity benefit in Clare last year, with 17 availing of it in 2019.

Fine Gael MEP for Ireland South, Deirdre Clune, says there is still work to do to incentivise the leave for new fathers here.
