Men in particular, who are taking to the waters in Clare this weekend are being advised not to let bravado get in the way of safety.

Around five people a fortnight die from drowning with Bank Holiday weekends in particular highlighted as a dangerous period.

Men account for 80 percent of all drownings, and Irish Water Safety is urging everyone to ensure they’re wearing a life vest no matter how experienced on the water they are.
