The residents of Rockville Drive have met with senior planning officers from Dun Laoighaire/Rathdown Council over the re-settlement of the Carrickmines fire survivors.

Some progress made this morning between residents and the council after more than three hours of talks.

Some local residents don’t want traveller families uprooted by the fire at a halting site in Carrickmines  moved to Rockview Drive.

After talks yesterday the Council said that the 15 people would be moved into the site for no more than 6 months.

However residents argue that it is an unsuitable location.

Protestors on Rockville Drive this afternoon say that the traveller families have been through since the fire – which killed 5 children and 5 adults.

Residents said that they were being unfairly treated by the council in this situation and some feel they are having this arrangement thrust upon them

However protestors Kim and Mark were appealing for them to show compassion.
