The median price of a home bought in Clare has increased by more than 30 percent in just two years.
New figures from the Central Statistics Office show the average price of a residential property in this county in 2021 was over €223,000.
Back in 2019, pre-pandemic, the median price of a property being sold in Clare was just under €170,000.
That jumped by around 31 percent to €223,500 by the end of last year.
While it’s 20 percent lower than the national average, those prices are heavily skewed by Dublin and commuter counties – though it was 26 percent lower back in 2019, suggesting the gap between Clare properties and the most expensive ones in the country is decreasing.
The mean sale price is of a home here is now around €214,000, which is a 20 percent increase in two years.
The data also makes difficult reading for those hoping to become first time buyers here.
The average price shelled out by those taking their first steps on the property ladder in Clare at the end of last year was €225,000.
While it’s an 8 percent increase on 2019’s figure, it’s far lower than the overall percentage jump, which perhaps suggests the Help to Buy scheme is benefitting some cohorts of people buying their first home here.
