McNamara critical of handling of beef crisis

Clare's Labour TD has criticised the Agriculture Minister's handling of the beef crisis.

Deputy Michael McNamara says he's "very disappointed" with Simon Coveney, saying the Minister could and should be doing more to help Irish beef farmers who have complained bitterly about low prices for their produce.

The East Clare representative made an unsuccessful complaint to the Competition Authority about the licensing of boats to export live cattle from Ireland, and believes that easing regulations would bring more buyers into the market.

Speaking on Clare FM's Farm Focus, Deputy McNamara argued that this could have helped boost the income of beef farmers.
