McNamara Calls On Irish Water To Address Dublin Leaks

Clare’s Independent TD is calling for the current period to be used as a chance to address high levels of leaks from water pipes in Dublin.

Irish Water has previously estimated that 43% of treated water is lost to leaks, and as it looks to shore up supply with projects such as the Shannon pipe line.

However, opponents to that controversial development – including Deputy Michael McNamara – says there needs to be a focus on repairing the existing problems, such as leaks.

He’s argued in the Dáil that the present time is the perfect moment to do just that.

Responding, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said Irish Water has an increased budget to carry out leak repairs, and that such works can proceed at this time as they have been deemed essential.
