Clare’s Labour TD has called for further developments of Ireland’s fisheries sector, saying it’s ‘undeveloped’ when compared to our EU counterparts.
Deputy Michael McNamara, a member of the Dáil sub-committee on fisheries, is calling for state agencies to better market the high-end, fresh produce caught on day-trips by the owners of Ireland’s 1,600 small fishing vessels.
He feels this is a better strategy then Bord Iascaigh Mhara plans to develop salmon farms, including one such project off Doolin which has been the focus of protests in Clare and Galway.
Speaking at a meeting of the sub-committee this week, Deputy McNamara made his call to representatives of BIM.
