Helen McEntee’s been elected as the new TD for Meath East after seeing off a strong Fianna Fáil challenge.

She’s retained the seat held by her late father, and maintained the Fine Gael share of the vote in the constituency.
She polled 38.5% of first preferences, with second placed Thomas Byrne of Fianna Fail bringing the party’s share of the vote from 19% two years ago to 33% today.
Sinn Féin came third with 13% of the vote and the surprise was Ben Gilroy of Direct Democracy Ireland coming fourth with 6.5% of the vote.
That knocked the Labour party into fifth with Eoin Holmes getting 4.6% of the vote.
