Mayor warns Shannon Airport cannot lose state aid

The Mayor of Clare says it’s imperative that Shannon Airport continues to receive the support of the state, even if it becomes fully autonomous.

The plan to separate the ownership and operation of Shannon from the DAA has been recommended in the Booz report on it’s future

However fears have been expressed that such a move would see it cut off from 8 million euro in annual subsidies that are currently paid out, and in turn could cost jobs.

Mayor of Clare Councillor Pat Hayes has welcomed recommendations that Shannon be run on a local concession model, including Clare County Council, but feels the airport would likely still need national support
