The Mayor of Ennis has sounded a note of caution over calls that landlords be punished if they don't keep their vacant business premises up to standard.

It follows suggestions that the 100% rates rebate for property owners be removed in instances where commercial units are unoccupied or unsightly.
It's hoped that this would spur action in areas blighted by a high level of vacancies, but Councillor Pat Daly has warned that some property owners may not be able to afford the required works.
However, he agrees that action is needed
