The Mayor of Ennis says business owners in the county town who fail to maintain their shopfronts should be forced to either lease out or sell the property.
Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard is calling on Ennis Municipal District to work with the enforcement section of Clare County Council’s Planning Department “to ensure all premises in the town centre are maintained to a good standard”.
It comes amid claims “some local businesses are allowing their premises to fall into disrepair with rotting woodwork and neglected facades”.
Councillor Howard believes action should be taken if owners aren’t doing their bit to contribute to a visually-appealing streetscape.
