The Mayor of Clare has described as “shocking”, the findings of a report which found that patients at St Joseph’s Nursing Home went a “period of months” without a shower, due to decisions taken to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

The Health Authority has today published its report following an “announced short notice inspection” in March, at a time when there were 65 residents at the Ennis facility.

At the time, the nursing home was recovering from an outbreak of COVID-19, which began in December, and led to 32 positive cases and six deaths.

The HSE has apologised to residents and their families, and an external review of St. Joseph’s is underway.

Mayor of Clare, Ennis Councillor Mary Howard has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill the findings of the report are disappointing and that she hopes recommendations are actioned upon immediately but she says other factors must be considered.
