The Mayor of Clare has made a fresh call for the installation of a pedestrian crossing in Crusheen amid serious road safety concerns.
The portion of the R458 outside Clarke’s Garage in the North Clare village has long been considered hazardous to pedestrians due to the lack of traffic calming measures on approach to the site, particularly from the Gort side.
A proposal was submitted for National Transport Active travel funding for Crusheen in 2022 with a view to improving pedestrian facilities along the Main Street and Tulla Road as well as implementing traffic calming measures but the application was unsuccessful.
Bodyke Fine Gael Councillor Joe Cooney says there is a “serious concern” around pedestrian safety in the village at present.
