A massive rescue operation is underway in the Mediterranean after a boat carrying 600 migrants capsized.

The LE Niamh and the Italian military are en route to the scene along with a number of ships.
Early indications suggest around 150 people are in the water.
The Defence Forces has described the situation as fluid.
