Anti-war activist Margaretta D'Arcy has revealed that she received a present from President Higgins' wife Sabina, weeks after her initial visit to her at Limerick Prison.
The 79-year old was released from custody on Saturday, having served nine-and-a-half weeks behind bars for refusing to sign a bond to keep the peace and to stay away from unauthorised zones at Shannon Airport. She had previously protested on its runway.
In January, a private visit to her by Sabina Higgins attracted national attention, and Ms. D'Arcy thanked her long-term friend for this.
However, in an interview on Clare FM's Morning Focus, she has also revealed that she received the gift of a bowl of shamrock from her just days before she was released from jail.
She has also vowed to continue her protests against the use of Shannon Airport by American military planes.
However Ms. D'Arcy, who previously demonstrated on it's runway, has stopped short of saying that she would do that again.
