Margaretta Protest Passes Off Without Incident

Around 100 people have taken part in a demonstration at Shannon Airport, calling for the release of an elderly anti-war activist from prison.

An increased Garda presence monitored today's event, where the crowd demanded that authorities release 79-year-old Galway woman Margaretta D'Arcy, who has been in detention at Limerick Prison since last month.

She had a suspended prison sentence activated for refusing to sign a bond promising to stay out of unauthorised zones at Shannon, having previosuly protested on it's runway.

Gardai say the demonstration passed off without major incident, although there was some traffic disruption for those trying to access the Airport.
