Man To Go On Trial For Murder Of Polish Man In Ennis

A 39 year old man charged with the murder of a Polish man in Ennis has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

Michael Maughan of 20 Stone Court, Ennis is accused of murdering Piotr Nowakowski at Sandfield Mews on July 23rd.

Piotr Nowakowski died in an ambulance en route to hospital after sustaining two stab wounds in the alleged attack last July.

The 31 year old Polish man had lived and worked in Clare for a number of years, and had previously resided in Shannon.

A book of evidence against murder accused Michael Maughan was served before the district court in Ennis, while solicitor for the accused, Willam Cahir was granted free legal aid for one senior and one junior counsel in the case.

Judge Patrick Durcan remanded Michael Maughan in custody and his case will now be listed for trial before a future sitting of the Central Criminal Court.
