A man has been sentenced to life in prison for what a judge described as the “savage” murder of two brothers in their home in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

Jack and Tom Blaine, who both had special needs, were beaten to death on July 20th 2013 by Alan Cawley from Four Winds in Corrimbla in Ballina.

The 30-year-old claimed he was suffering from a mental disorder that diminished his criminal responsibility, but the jury disagreed.
