Emergency services have come to the aid of an 86-year-old man whose car plunged down a 20ft bank and into a river in Kilmaley yesterday.

The incident happened near O'Brien's Shop at around 4:30, when the man's Suzuki car lunged forward through a fence and down the river bank.
Three units of the fire service from Ennis were called to the scene, while the Doolin and Kilkee units of the Irish Coast Guard were alerted, and the Shannon-based search and rescue helicopter was requested to attend.
The man was taken from the car and helped to a waiting ambulance, and was uninjured in the incident.
