Man in serious condition after west Clare road traffic accident

A 23-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital after sustaining what are described as "serious injuries" in a road traffic accident in West Clare.

The R484 road between the CrossRoads Bar in Knockalough and Kilmihil village has been closed since shortly after the single vehicle collision occurred at around 8:30 this morning.

Gardaí, ambulance personnel and three units of the fire service from Kilrush were all dispatched to the scene.

A 23-year old man, who isunderstood to hail from the local area, was the only occupant of the car.

The man sustained what Gardaí have described as "serious injuries" and was airlifted to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

The road was sealed off to allow for a technical examination, and remains closed this lunchtime.
