A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being viciously assaulted in Co Limerick.

The incident happened at around a quarter past 2 this morning, in the town square in Newcastle West.
The man, who sustained a number of kicks to his head and was rushed to Cork University Hospital, was later transferred to University Hospital Limerick.
Gardai at Newcastle West are appealing for witnesses.
