Man escapes jail over body concealment

A 37 year old Ennis man who concealed the body of his dead friend for 19 days from the authorities has escaped jail.

At Ennis Circuit Court Bernard Flaherty of 3 Lifford Lodge admitted that he put Frank Hassett’s family through "three weeks of hell” by not telling them that his body was in his shower unit at his  apartment in Clare’s County Town in June-July 2011.

Judge Carroll Moran imposed a suspended three year jail term on Mr Flaherty for knowingly making a false statement to Gardaí  in relation to Frank Hasset’s whereabouts.
